Position Summary:

A leader in the interior design/flooring industry is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Controller / Director of Finance to oversee all accounting operations and support financial strategy. This role is responsible for leading the company’s financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, cash flow management, and budgeting processes.


This position blends traditional Controller responsibilities—such as general ledger oversight, financial reporting, and audit coordination—with broader Director of Finance duties like forecasting, financial analysis, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, excellent organizational skills, and a strong working knowledge of RFMS or similar ERP systems. A CPA designation is preferred but not required.


Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP (or IFRS) standards

  • Coordinate and manage external audits

  • Present financial results and insights to executive leadership


Accounting Oversight

  • Manage the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial data

  • Reconcile balance sheet and bank accounts regularly

  • Oversee the entire accounting cycle including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and payroll

  • Ensure timely and accurate close processed


Internal Controls

  • Develop and enforce accounting policies and procedures

  • Implement and enhance internal controls to protect company assets

  • Improve financial systems and optimize workflow efficiency

  • Maintain proper documentation of processes and controls


Compliance

  • Ensure timely and accurate tax filings (federal, state, local)

  • Stay current with regulatory changes and ensure company compliance

  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors


Cash Management

  • Monitor and manage daily cash flow to support operations

  • Conduct regular bank reconciliations

  • Optimize treasury and banking processes to maintain liquidity


Cost Control

  • Review and analyze operational costs and spending trends

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and monitor budget variances

  • Work with department heads to maintain financial discipline


Budgeting & Financial Analysis

  • Lead annual budgeting process and periodic forecasts

  • Analyze gross profit margins, revenue trends, and expense performance

  • Provide data-driven insights and financial modeling for strategic decisions


Team Management

  • Supervise the Billing Director, Accounting Director, and a total team of ~15

  • Train and develop accounting and finance staff

  • Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement


ERP Systems & Tools

  • Leverage RFMS (flooring industry ERP) for accurate financial reporting and efficient workflows

  • Evaluate and implement system improvements as needed

  • Ensure financial tools and software are being used effectively by the team


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial leadership

  • Deep knowledge of GAAP and regulatory requirements

  • Proven success in managing accounting operations and leading finance teams

  • Proficiency with RFMS or similar ERP/accounting platforms

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • CPA preferred; candidates actively pursuing certification will also be considered

  • Clear and confident communication with executives, staff, and external partners
